So who knows. The official story goes...Scientology is an "applied religious philosophy", a body of beliefs and related practices, the basis for a new religion, initially developed by explorer, war hero and science fiction author L. Ron Hubbard.

It came about in 1952(first Church of Scientology was founded in 1953)as an outgrowth of Hubbard's earlier self-help system, Dianetics. Scientology encompasses a spiritual rehabilitation philosophy and techniques. Scientology covers topics such as morals, ethics, detoxification, education and management.

Journalists, courts and the governing bodies of several countries have stated that the Church of Scientology is a cult. A cult that is an unscrupulous commercial enterprise that harasses its critics and abuses the trust of its members.
