2012 AD has been the subject of prophecies since the Mayans
worked out it was the 'End of the World'.
The Mayans were a highly civilised people with an extraordinary skill for advanced astronomy and mathematics.
Yet most folks remember them for predicting the world will end in 2012.
The exact date is not agreed by leading experts. Its hard as no one is exactly sure when the Mayan calendar began.
Some say it was 11.08,114 B.C whilst others say it was 13.08,114 B.C.
This problem has arisen because of translations between the Mayan calendar and our calendar which changed from
Julian to Gregorian.
Basically we are screwed either way as the great cycle of 5,125 years ends on either;
